President's Message
Aloha Kakou,
Welcome to the Hawai`i State PTSA (HSPTSA). Your Hawaii State PTSA had another productive year.
We opened our office in January 2009 located at 765 Amana Street, Suite 308, Honolulu, HI and have
hired new office manager Shin Mon Ko to meet the ongoing needs of our local units.
To support our local units, we held Leadership Training sessions throughout the state, hosted
HSPTSA's Annual Legislative Conference, Celebrated the 2008-2009 Reflections Awards Banquet on
June 14, 2009 at the Pacific Beach Hotel.
At our 82nd Annual Convention on June 14, 2009 we had the opportunity to hear from two keynote speakers Byron Garret,
National PTA's CEO who shared his version of the ABC's of student achievement and Craig Scott of Rachel's Challenge who
inspired us all as he shared his tragic experience as one of the students in the library on the day of the Columbine shooting
and of his sister Rachel, who on that day, was the first student killed.
Convention delegates also enjoyed the many workshops offered with topics ranging from PTA Programs, 990 Filing,
Parliamentary Procedures, the “Ins and Outs” of Hawaii’s Special Education and much more. We look forward to seeing all
our local units on Kauai in 2010 for our 83rd Annual State Convention.
Lastly, I like to thank HSPTSA volunteer board members who have assisted our local units throughout the year. As volunteer
leaders in our community we have an awesome privilege! We have the opportunity to make a difference and celebrate our
successes. As you can see from the various vacancies in your state board, we are in need of those of you at the local board
level to share your talents, skill and courage to lead at a state level and support local units statewide. Thank you, to all of you,
for your contributions!
